What is Breast Milk Jewelry?

The birth of a child is probably one of the most unforgettable moments in a parent's life. The subsequent breastfeeding period demands a lot from mothers, but at the same time it is a unique way of bonding between mother and child. Being able to feed your own child with your own body is a wonderful feeling.

Breast milk jewelry offers the opportunity to capture this unique time forever. Just a few drops of the precious gold are enough to create a wonderfully unique commemorative jewel.

In order for me to conjure up your individual breast milk jewelry, I need 10-20 ml of your breast milk, depending on the memorial jewelry.

You can choose from different pieces of jewelry:

Necklace made from breast milk

Ring made from breast milk

Bracelet made from breast milk

Earrings made from breast milk

Why breast milk jewelry?

Whether breastfeeding or pumping, breast milk jewelry allows mothers to capture and celebrate their "breastfeeding journey" in a way.

Having fed your own child for months or maybe even years and all the work and sacrifice that comes with providing breast milk should be celebrated. And why not reward yourself with a breast milk jewelry and at the same time hold on to this treasure forever.

How is jewelry made from breast milk?

The process from liquid breast milk to memory jewel is very complex and I spent over a year tinkering and researching to find the best way for me.

The first step is to turn the milk into a dry powder. To do this, a little preservative is added to breast milk to inhibit enzymatic activity and prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi. The breast milk is then heated until a paste is formed.

The paste is then dried over a period of 2 weeks. This slow drying is important to keep the milk free of bacteria and other contaminants.

Once the milk has dried, I grind it by hand with a small mortar to obtain a fine powder.

To create a commemorative jewel, I mix the milk powder with clear resin. Other desired fillings are also incorporated in this step.

As soon as the jewelry has hardened, I check whether everything meets my quality standards, sand and polish a little more if necessary and then package the finished souvenir jewel for shipping.

What can be processed into the breast milk jewelry?

In addition to breast milk, other memorabilia can be incorporated:

- Strand of the child's hair

- strand of fur from an animal

- Pieces of placenta/umbilical cord

- Bridal bouquet/flowers

- Teeth

- Ash

- Other reminder

Decorative extras can also be added:

- Gold leaf, silver leaf, rose gold leaf

- Different colors

- Color glitter

- Fonts, texts, graphics

In addition, the breast milk can also be given a pearl shimmer effect or poured into a specific shape (see photo on the left, here, for example, breast milk was poured into a heart).

How do I care for my breast milk jewelry??

I recommend cleaning the jewelry occasionally with a soft cloth slightly dampened with soapy water. In this way, contamination is removed and tarnishing of the metals can be avoided or eliminated. Please never clean the jewelry with alcoholic cleaners or nail polish remover! Some pieces of jewelry are painted, which permanently damages this layer and also the casting resin.

The jewelry should be stored away from direct sunlight and heat, but please do not store it in a box or something similar completely in the dark, as in rare cases this can lead to dark yellowing!

Please do not store jewelry in the bathroom!

Contact with a lot of water and also salt water, sweat, chemical substances, strong heat and sunlight should be avoided. I therefore recommend taking off your jewelry when showering, bathing, swimming, exercising, sunbathing and before going to bed.

Rings should be removed before washing your hands and should not come into contact with cream or the like.

It is normal for sterling silver to tarnish over time. However, this tarnishing is accelerated by contact with, for example, perfume, salty air, sulfur, skin creams, hairspray and chlorine, as well as by the acidic pH values of the skin. Tarnishing is therefore not a manufacturing defect.

How do I ship my breast milk?

Breast milk must be placed in a well-sealed breast milk bag.

Pack the first breast milk bag into a second breast milk bag and close it tightly again.

Breast milk bags are available at the drugstore or on Amazon.

Please be sure to label the breast milk bags with your name!

Then put the bags in a padded envelope and only send them by post Monday to Wednesday so that the envelope is not left at the post office over the weekend.

Frozen breast milk must be thawed by you beforehand and only then may it be sent. Shipping is at your risk; if it is damaged (leaks), the envelope and its contents will be disposed of.
